After completing the first mural project, we quickly embarked on our second endeavor. We were honored to receive an invitation from Gray, the owner of 10milesBBQ, to create a hand-painted mural of Vincent van Gogh’s “Starry Night.” We greatly appreciated the idea of bringing van Gogh’s iconic masterpiece into the restaurant. However, this idea came with significant challenges, and I’d like to talk you more:

The wall for the mural was relatively large and suitable for artistic creation. However, once seating arrangements were added, the original aspect ratio of 4:3 transformed into 16:9. This dimension far exceeded the original proportions of “Starry Night.” This meant that we had to create a new draft to maintain the integrity of the composition while preserving the beauty of the original artwork. We quickly embarked on a secondary creative process, resulting in a sketch that adhered to the required mural aspect ratio.

The second challenge arose from the restaurant’s imminent opening in just 10 days, leaving us with a mere 5 days to complete the mural. Ensuring a cohesive style and an efficient workflow became a rather formidable task. Our typical approach involved dividing the work into sections and assigning different elements to various team members. However, this time, using this method would have made it challenging to maintain a consistent style. Therefore, for this project, we opted to divide the work into different batches. For instance, the first pass on the sky was handled by A, the second pass by B, and so forth. This approach resulted in a highly unified final mural because the contributions of both individuals seamlessly merged into one harmonious composition.

Upon the successful completion of the mural, we received unanimous praise from the 10milesBBQ team. We are delighted to have finished the project on schedule, and, of course, the greatest satisfaction comes from knowing that our artwork has added a unique and captivating touch to this restaurant.
